The Problem

Something that I can’t stand about lottie is having all the power of after effects and the itty bitty living space of a json converter. Sometimes you just want to do your raster effect to a vector object, like puppet pins, without having to bend over backwards and re-rig something to animate frame by frame.

The Solution

✨Enter this wonderful tip on the Adobe user forum✨

How to warp like puppet tool without puppet tool ?

You can use the menu item Layer > Auto Trace

This will trace whatever you have in your layer and replace it with mask data for you to manipulate however you like. Really great to reconstruct some previously raster information into mask data for Lottie!!

Bonus tip:

Use it on stuff like FX and hand drawn elements and apply that mask to a solid. Makes it really easy to get splashes that are still vector but with a hand drawn feel onto your website.
